Amsterdam Lookout: Admission, opening hours & info

The Amsterdam Lookout is one of the most exciting attractions of the Dutch metropolis. The main attraction for visitors is the 360° viewing platform, but the A’DAM Lookout has much more to offer. In this article, I would like to introduce you to this remarkable building and give you a few reasons to visit it.

The 360º panoramic view – The roof terrace

The 360º panoramic view - The roof terrace

The roof terrace is undoubtedly one of the main reasons many Amsterdam travelers climb the Lookout. From here, you have a fantastic panoramic view and a spectacular view of Amsterdam, the sea, and the Dutch polder landscape.

Compared to similar viewing platforms in large metropolises, such as The Shard in London or the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the A’DAM Lookout is less spectacular. Still, it impresses with its unique view of Amsterdam.

🕒 The Amsterdam Lookout is accessible 365 days a year and is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The last entry is at 21:00.

The Best time for the visit

As mentioned above, it can get crowded at various times. This often includes the time between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m.

It is a good idea to be among the first visitors at 10:00. There are no queues yet, and you can see from above how the hustle and bustle in the harbor and the city begins.

Nevertheless, you should always book your ticket online! So you can save time at the ticket office and go with your online access directly up to the Amsterdam Lookout.

Best day of the week for a visit

The best day of the week to visit Amsterdam Lookout is Friday afternoon! Why Friday afternoon? Amsterdam is an international and multicultural city. Many students worldwide live here, and many global companies employ people from neighboring countries.

Since the working day in Holland generally starts a little earlier, the weekend also begins early on Friday. Many who study and work in Amsterdam now go to their hometowns. The city has a lot of traffic, so it’s the best opportunity to visit the A’DAM Lookout.

Weekend tourists arrive later and certainly do not go to the observation deck of the Amsterdam Tower first.

Best season for the visit

The best time of year to visit the Amsterdam Lookout Tower is spring to fall, when temperatures tend to be milder. Who wants to stand here in winter to look at foggy Amsterdam?

If you go to the A’DAM Lookout in the summer, you should not forget your sunglasses!

Over the Edge Experience

Over the Edge Experience

When I first heard this, I could hardly imagine it! Simply swinging back and forth over the edge of the A’DAM tower at a height of 100 meters with a view into the depths. This LOOKOUT experience, Over the Edge Experience, is possible for daredevils and sensation seekers in Europe’s highest swing.

Of course, all safety precautions are taken here so everything goes correctly. Those who fear heights or are not free from giddiness should not necessarily do this. Who has courage, however, is best to pay € 5.00 per person for this unique adrenaline kick on the spot.

Restaurant and Rooftop Bar

Restaurant and Rooftop Bar

The city-famous, high-priced Moon restaurant also offers guests a fantastic panoramic view of vibrant Amsterdam. It is located on the 20th floor of the A’DAM Tower, just below the Panorama Roof. Visits from 6:00 p.m. onwards are by reservation only. Restaurant visitors do not pay an extra entrance fee for the ascent in the evening.

The Rooftop Bar is located on the 21st floor. Here, you can get snacks and drinks at any time.

The souvenir store

The souvenir store

The Lookout Amsterdam souvenir store is located on the second floor! So, when you’ve finished the tour and are back downstairs with both feet, you can take a quick tour of the Lookout store.

The store is somewhat disappointing! There are souvenirs from Amsterdam, which one would also find elsewhere. The souvenirs rarely relate to the A’DAM Lookout, but you can still find another souvenir for the family!

A’DAM Lookout – Other tickets

A’DAM Lookout - Other tickets

Staying in Amsterdam is expensive. Ticket prices are generally very high. Here are some more suggestions for tickets related to the A’DAM Lookout. The Lunch and Dinner tickets are a great gift idea or even something for special occasions.

Location & Approach

The exact address of the A’DAM Lookout is Overhoeksplein 5, 1031 KS Amsterdam. For drivers, there is an underground parking at Amsterdam Tower Amsterdam. So ideal for those who want to arrive by car. Of course, the parking fees are very high, like everywhere in Amsterdam = 1€ per 20 minutes.

If you want to see the highlights of Amsterdam from here, you should book the following boat tour:

Kreuzfahrt ab A`DAM Tower

Otherwise, take the train, tram, metro, or walk to Amsterdam Central Station to get there. The Amsterdam Lookout is located on the north bank, opposite the Centraal. Follow the signs IJ-Zijde and then take the ferry north of the city – towards Buiksloterweg. The ferry shuttles around the clock all day. The journey takes about 3 minutes, and the transfer is free.

Lookout and surroundings for children

Many travelers go to Amsterdam with their children, and sometimes, it takes work to find activities that are also interesting for children. Of course, the visits to the Museumplein, such as the Rijksmuseum or Van Gogh Museum, are pretty dull for children because it’s always about culture and history! That’s precisely why the A’DAM Lookout and the flight simulator are now lovely changes. This is Holland next door.

A’DAM Lookout.

One highlight follows the next. First, the ride on the small ferry from the central station to the other shore. Then, of course, only a few minutes on foot, show tickets, and off we go in height. However, it is not a standard elevator but a high-speed elevator that catapults its passengers to a height of 100 meters in 22 seconds, accompanied by light effects. It’s so fast enough to impress your kids! Continue exploring the observation deck and the view of the city and the harbor. Most interest will likely be in the many canal boats, ferries, and oversized cruise ships.

Lookout and surroundings for children

THIS IS HOLLAND is located in the round, somewhat futuristic-looking building between A’DAM Lookout and the EYE Film Museum. Since it is located next to the Amsterdam Tower, you can reach it by taking a short ferry ride from the opposite station. Since October 2017, it has been one of the canal city’s newer attractions.

This is Holland gives adults and children a unique flying experience over the Netherlands’ most significant places and areas with the latest technology.
