Rijksmuseum admission prices / Online Tickets
The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is one of the most important sights in the canal city and the capital of the Netherlands. The National Museum of Holland and its collections show the art history of the Netherlands from the Middle Ages to the present day. The masterpieces from the Golden Age, in particular, attract countless visitors every year.
The Golden Age was a period of economic prosperity in the Netherlands that lasted roughly the 17th century. Art, culture, and not most minor, painting was extremely popular with a broad section of the population, unlike in the rest of Europe.
🖼️ Unfortunately, only a few paintings produced at that time are still preserved today, but now the highlights of the Rijksmuseum. These include, of course, The Night Watch, Rembrandt’s most famous painting.

Ticket holders for the Rijksmuseum can often choose the date and time of their visit. Admission tickets are valid for one year. With a pre-purchased access card, you can bypass the queue and go directly to the entrance for e-ticket holders. Tickets with a date and time slot are only valid on the day.
📧 As a rule, tickets are sent to you by email after you have booked and paid online. You can print them at home or transfer them to your smartphone. Payment can be made using all standard payment methods.
Waiting times at the Rijksmuseum
There is always a lot going on at the Rijksmuseum. Like many other metropolises in Europe, Amsterdam is experiencing a tourist boom. Visitors are travelling by car, train, bus, plane, and, in recent years, increasingly by the ever-growing number of cruise ships. This means long queues form not only in summer, during the holiday season or on public holidays. It can also get crowded in the year’s colder months, especially in the run-up to Christmas. Visitors also have to expect waiting times at the cloakroom in the atrium.
If you prefer a quieter time, you can orientate yourself to the times of day. Before ten o’clock, you can view the works in more privacy; after 3 p.m., the flow of visitors ebbs away somewhat. This saves waiting times at the ticket office but does not replace the urgent advice to get pre-booked online tickets. Good planning can save time at many popular attractions in Amsterdam. Online ticket holders can always avoid the queues and have priority entry.

💰 The prices are the same everywhere.
Due to the constant demand, discounts are relatively rare. Combined tickets are one way of reducing the cost of admission tickets. Combining two single tickets can be cheaper than buying individual tickets, even when booking costs are considered.
Here are some suggestions for combined tickets in conjunction with the Rijksmuseum:

Full details of the offers can be found on the respective provider’s website. Discounts and reductions for children and young people are also available.
Tickets for groups for the Rijskmuseum
Groups of more than 15 people must register separately. Whether it may be a tour group, school class, student group, or an artistic organisation that would like to visit the Rijksmuseum together, with or without a guide, a separate request is always the best solution. Ticket prices may also differ from the standard price.
Although online registration for groups is possible on the Rijksmuseum website, we recommend contacting us directly by email at info@rijksmuseum.nl or telephone at +31 (0) 20 6747 000. Please note that reservations can only be made electronically against prepayment. Payment after receipt of the invoice is not possible.
Admission with Amsterdam City Passes
🎟️ Free entry to the Rijksmuseum is available to holders of the I Amsterdam City Card or the Amsterdam Pass from Tiqets, depending on the features of the chosen variants. You can also find all the information about these passes in my blog under Amsterdam Passes.

Admission to Museum Het Rembrandthuis
Het Rembrandthuis is temporarily closed
The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is dedicated to Rembrandt, mainly because of his famous painting, The Night Watch. One of the most famous Dutch artists, he was born in Leiden/South Holland in 1606 and died in Amsterdam in 1669. Rembrandt was a painter, etcher, and draughtsman. The reproducibility of his etchings, in particular, helped him gain a reputation as an artist throughout Europe. Rembrandt repeatedly expressed his flair for light effects with great intensity and strong contrasts of light and dark in his prints.
In 1639, Rembrandt purchased the museum, now known as Het Rembrandthuis, in Sint Antoniesbreestraat. He lived there until 1658 when he had to give up the house due to financial difficulties. The building then deteriorated but was never demolished because of its famous occupant. The idea of a historical reconstruction of Rembrandt’s home came very late. The final work was not completed until 1999.
Today, almost his entire collection of etchings is on display in the museum. You can also see paintings by Rembrandt’s teachers and pupils working in Amsterdam. Anyone interested in Rembrandt’s life and work should visit the museum!
